The “rosie twist” (seen here on model Coco Rocha) was the look du jour at the Christian Siriano Fall/Winter 2023 show.

Roses were the romantic muse behind the “rosie twist” bun at the Christian Siriano Fall/Winter 2023 show. “We were inspired by the hand-crafted floral accents found throughout the collection to echo this in the hair by creating a rose-like twist, with a ‘stem’ of hair weaving down the crown of the head, meeting the rose-like bun in the back,” Lacy Redway, Unilever stylist and celebrity hair artist, explained in a statement.

To hold the look in place, Redway leaned on the Tresemmé Freeze Hold Hair Spray. The styling product claims to work on all hair types and textures as a means to prevent

Thieves steal $50,000 in fashion items from New York store

  • April 11, 2023

NEW YORK (WABC) – An early morning heist was caught on camera.

Thieves broke into a luxury store in Manhattan and made off with tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise.

It was like a private shopping event, but no one paid for anything. The suspects had the Givenchy store in the SoHo neighborhood all to themselves Saturday morning.

Several hours before the store even opened, cameras caught them as they picked through pricey merchandise and loaded their bags full of it.

“It’s extremely brazen and it’s not the first time you’ve heard of something like this in the city,” one shopper said.

The Givenchy shop has guards.

It’s not clear what time the guards started that day, but wood was later placed over the glass door the burglars broke.

Bags and clothes go for thousands and can easily be resold. While the city isn’t seeing a spike in burglaries as a whole, SoHo is seeing an uptick.

“I’m not worried, but just amazed and surprised of what is going on and has been going on and it makes you so sad,” another shopper described.

Between Jan. 1 and Feb. 12, there were 12 burglaries in SoHo, data shows. That’s up from the same period last year when there were nine.

A couple visiting from Washington, D.C. was mindful about what may have prompted the crime.

“People, when they get hungry, they do things that oftentimes some of us can’t even imagine doing, but for them it’s obviously a need of some type, you know? Unfortunately, as we continue to kind of have this gap in wealth, stuff like this probably will continue to happen.”

Police were looking for four suspects.

Thieves target high-end fashion stores, pedestrians wearing luxury brands in wave of D.C. robberies

  • April 8, 2023

High-end fashion stores and items have been targeted by thieves throughout the District in recent weeks.

The Metropolitan Police Department said that a mob of as many as 15 young thieves raided the Chanel store in downtown D.C. on Sunday and made off with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

The group robbery was reported at about 2:40 p.m. and the suspects were described as males between the ages of 17-25 years old, according to police. All were wearing black masks and dark clothing during the robbery, and their getaway cars were described as a white Infiniti and a black Acura SUV.

No one was injured during the robbery and no weapons were involved.

The Chanel store raid came after the District saw a spate of armed robberies involving Canada Goose down jackets in neighborhoods surrounding the downtown area.

The jackets, which can cost up to $1,000, were stolen from five victims in four separate incidents between Jan. 24 and Feb. 5, according to WJLA, the local ABC affiliate for the city.

Julian and Sheila Kaufman, a couple from New York City, were victims of a daylight robbery in Dupont Circle earlier this month.

“All of a sudden someone’s like, ‘Gimme your coat! Gimme your coat!’ And I thought, is this a joke?” Mrs. Kaufman told WRC-TV, the local NBC affiliate for D.C. “And then he waved a gun by me … and I took it off and gave it to him.”

Other robberies have taken place in the area around George Washington University, prompting school officials to put out an alert on the matter.

“These jackets are very expensive, and our community members should be mindful while wearing them, even in very public spaces,” GW’s campus advisory said. “As always, be mindful of your surroundings.”

Retailers gear up for West Reading’s fashion show | Berks Regional News

  • April 6, 2023

WEST READING, Pa. — Local fashion retailers are preparing the final touches for West Reading’s fashion show this Saturday.

“We’ve got such a great selection of boutiques in West Reading, and they all have a little bit different sense of style and they’re all staying really current,” said Mark Ratcliffe, executive director of West Reading’s Main Street.

Organizers said the goal of the fashion show is to give exposure to boutiques in the area and to showcase upcoming fashions and trends.

“On an event like this, we’re really pulling out our big stops and showing some fun items and showing that Berks County can be fashionable,” said Alison Pakradooni, owner of Be Mine Boutique.

From everyday looks to formal and even lingerie, Ratcliffe said the event gives people a taste of real-life fashion and how to express it anywhere you are.

“You can have really great local clothing that is fun to wear, comfortable and supports the local economy,” said Ratcliffe.

“I think collaborating with all the other stores is something that’s so important because people think that having other similar industry shops is competitors, but actually, it’s like the idea of going to a mall,” said Pakradooni. “You want options.”

The show will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m. for VIPs and at 8 p.m. for the general public. You must west-reading-fashion-show-2023-tickets-499778008477″purchase tickets ahead of time.

White Rose recycled fashion retailer opens 8th Nottingham store in Victoria Centre

  • April 2, 2023

Nottingham’s Victoria Centre has welcomed recycled fashion retailer, White Rose, to its retail line-up today (24 February).

The charitable fashion brand, which sells ‘lovingly hand-picked recycled clothes’, was founded by two former Nottingham Trent University students in 2009.

The new store, which is situated on the upper mall, adds to the centre’s already strong lineup of unique fashion brands, including vintage and retro clothing retailers, Damaged Society and Rebel Clothing, as well as household names like John Lewis & Partners, Urban Outfitters, River Island and Next.

The arrival of White Rose at the centre marks the brand’s eighth shop in the city, all found in prominent locations across Nottingham, including Hockley, Old Market Square and Market Street.

As well as creating three new permanent roles, its team will be on the lookout for approximately 20 volunteers to fill the store’s day-to-day operations.

With the aim of reducing fast fashion’s impact on the environment and minimising waste, shoppers will find a range of second-hand men’s and women’s clothing, accessories and footwear.

Its offering of pre-loved items also features a mix of premium and high-street brands, including the likes of Ralph Lauren, Miss Selfridge, Adidas and Zara, among others.

Commenting on the centre’s latest arrival, Nigel Wheatley, centre director at Victoria Centre said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome White Rose to the centre; a charitable fashion brand, founded here in Nottingham, making a real difference not only to the industry but also to our local community.

“Since the first store opening back in 2009, we’ve seen the positive impact White Rose has had in encouraging the uptake of pre-loved clothing and the reduction of waste.”

Lee Reynolds, general manager at White Rose, added:

“We are delighted to be able to bring White Rose into Victoria Centre.

“The centre has so much history

New vintage store provides sustainable, affordable fashion to Pittsburgh residents

  • April 1, 2023

Mike Lang, a South Hills resident and founder of Fifty One Ten Vintage on Penn Avenue, said the vintage store provides sustainable, high-quality vintage clothing at prices that are hard to find elsewhere. He opened Fifty One Ten Vintage, his first store, in East Liberty in 2020, followed by Twisted Vintage in 2022 and their most recent location, Vintage on 51, just last week.

“You learn to be more fierce and motivated as you get into business. Especially when it’s yours, there’s no one above you. You have to make those decisions. It’s nonstop,” Lang said.

In addition to their reasonable prices, each vintage store has plenty of sales, promotions and events, Lang said. This weekend, the Fifty One Ten location is having a $25 fill-a-bag sale. The stores sell college crewnecks, vintage Levi’s, neon Y2K tops and more.

Opening a vintage store was always a dream, Lang said. He worked at a thrift store on Penn Avenue 12 years ago and always had his eye on a venue across the street, especially after noticing the resurgence of older clothing in 2010.

After creating pop-up shops, he finally had the opportunity to open Fifty One Ten Vintage with his wife, Nina, at the same venue he’d always hoped for. Vintage on 51 was born following the success of the first two locations after Lang realized the need for a vintage store outside of the city.

“It’s wild. The success is awesome, I’m super happy. That was why we chose to expand, it was like, there needs to be more of these stores, you don’t have to go half an hour into the city,” Lang said.

Canyon Cabrera, a Mount Washington resident, is co-owner of the newest store, which is located in Jefferson Hills. He said he

Fashion brand expands with Nottingham store
Lucy & Yak

A sustainable fashion brand has expanded with the signing of a lease for a new store in Nottingham city centre.

Lucy & Yak has agreed a deal with FHP Property Consultants for 11 The Poultry, representing the company’s fourth physical store.

11 The Poultry was most recently known as the JoJo Maman Bebe store, which decided to vacate following its lease expiry.

The property totals 2,147 sq ft.

Chris Renwick, co-founder of Lucy & Yak, said: “We can’t wait to be open in Nottingham this month after carrying out shop fitting works to the unit.

The city is full of arts, cultural and history. This will extend our physical store presence to the East Midlands, where we can reach even more of our community and continue building our Re:Yaks network.

“The shop is in a fantastic position close to good quality operators with good footfall throughout the day.”

FHP acted on behalf of a private landlord.

Oliver Marshall, director at FHP Property Consultants, added: “This is a great result for Nottingham.  Lucy & Yak have got a huge following which continues to grow, and for them to choose Nottingham as the latest destination for their next store, is testament to the city.
