Rihanna Does Valentine’s Day Fashion With Ultra-Rare ’00s Runway Fashion

  • February 16, 2024

Like many loved-up couples, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky stepped out for a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day. Most couples, though, were likely not treated to a private booth in one of Paris’ celebrity hotspots or, for that matter, decked out in luxury vintage fashion and a 15 carat diamond. But, truly, Rihanna and and A$AP Rocky aren’t most couples. Last night, the parents of two were spotted grabbing a bite to eat at the restaurant César in Paris while wearing some pretty serious fashion.

Let’s begin with Rocky, who was seen gifting his partner a bouquet of red roses during their Parisian evening. The rapper sported a black jacket and pants that he styled with diamond earrings and wide-framed sunglasses. While Rocky channeled his signature casual cool style, Rihanna was busy indulging in some statement dressing of her own. The singer went with a champagne color way for her look that she topped with a trio of ultra-luxe pieces—two of which just so happened to be over decades old.

Rihanna layered a fox fur stole, from the Tom Ford-designed Yves Saint Laurent fall 2003 runway show, over her gauzy sheer blouse. The singer has proven herself to be a proponent of gargantuan furs in the past—mainly archival, from the likes of Roberto Cavalli and Chanel—but this YSL number was the perfect compliment to her night out look.

The same stole was shown on the French brand’s runway with a satin silk dress. Rihanna’s vintage grails didn’t end there—she also slipped into a lingerie-inspired skirt from John Galliano’s spring 2004 collection for Dior.

Like just about everything she does, Rihanna put her own spin on both of these vintage finds, styling them with round sunglasses, pin straight hair, and a furry Louis Vuitton mini

Soon You May Know Exactly Where Your Diamond Was Mined

  • November 25, 2023

“The social and economic value of diamonds is very different depending on where they come from in the world,” Mr. Moltke said on a video call earlier this month from his home in Antwerp, Belgium. He moved to the city, a diamond trading hub, after leaving De Beers, where he had worked for 16 years, including five years in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital.

“I saw firsthand how these diamonds do good and how important it is for those communities who live off them,” he said.

This month, International Diamond Center, a 12-store jewelry retailer based in Clearwater, Fla., is planning to introduce Botswanamark’s branded diamonds at four of its stores, Mr. Moltke said, adding that the consumer experience will be similar to the De Beers model.

Greg Kwiat, chief executive of Kwiat Diamonds, a diamond jewelry brand in New York City, said the company’s Mine to Shine traceability program, introduced in June, was likewise based on a desire to show how diamonds positively affect the communities in Africa where they are mined.

Consumers who buy Kwiat diamonds are able to follow their stones from the mine through the stages of cutting and setting into jewelry. “Right now, we’re sharing videos and imagery of the process as it’s occurring,” Mr. Kwiat said. “At the end, you get this aggregated video from start to finish as a wonderful shareable memento.”

Proving mined diamonds’ origins is something the diamond industry has focused on since the late 1990s, when the blood-diamond crisis shook consumer confidence in the trade. In 2003, a coalition of governments, civil society and diamond industry established the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, aimed at preventing the flow of conflict diamonds.

Diamond Wildcats claim district volleyball title | Sports

  • October 25, 2023

The Diamond Wildcats’ task was clear — stop a young Miller team from claiming its fifth straight district title in volley.

Mission accomplished — in dominating fashion — as Diamond (33-4-1) swept the Cardinals (20-13-2) 3-0 in the Class 2, District 11 championship match on Thursday night at Miller High School in front of a packed gymnasium.

Diamond now awaits the winner of the District 12 tourney, which concludes Monday. The Wildcats will host the state quarterfinal and the winner of District 12 next Thursday for the right to advance to the Final Four.

Miller — which at five students over enrollment limits to remain in Class 1 was moved to Class 2 this year — held an early 3-1 lead in the first set, but relinquished the lead for good at 4-5. Diamond extended its lead to 20-14 on a Miller spike that flew out of bounds. Miller scored 3 straight points at 22-17 to pull within 2, but the Wildcats tallied the final 5 points of the set, including an Aubrey Ball spike that went off the arms of a Miller blocker and fell out of bounds for the final point and a 25-20 Diamond win.

In the second set, Diamond got an early 9-3 lead, but Miller rallied to close the gap to 12-9. Diamond responded and held its biggest lead of the set at 22-13 after a service ace by senior Caitlyn Suhrie.

Miller closed to within 7 points at 24-17, but a tip over the net by junior Lauren Turner fell just short of Miller’s Lauryn Landers and the Wildcats sealed the second-set win 25-17 to go up 2-0 in the match.

The Wildcats wasted no time exerting their dominance in the third set and sprinted out to an early 5-0 lead. A

Diamond D & the Psychotic Neurotics’ Debut

  • October 9, 2023

The Bronx’s first wave of hip-hop heroes were the visionary architects and progenitors of a largely live practice. But by the early 90s their heirs were distinguishing themselves with their command of the recording studio. Along with his fellow flagship colleagues in the Diggin’ In the Crates crew – Showbiz & AG and Lord Finesse – producer/emcee Diamond D was amongst the brightest young talents to come out of the BX in this period. Raised in Forest Houses and mentored by the legendary Zulu Nation DJ/producer/studio and label owner Jazzy Jay (who signed Diamond’s first group, Ultimate Force) he was already something of a rap industry veteran when he dropped a sage and savvy guest verse on A Tribe Called Quest’s “Show Business” from the group’s classic 1991 LP, Low End Theory.

But it was Diamond’s fittingly titled debut single with back-up crew the Psychotic Neurotics, “Best Kept Secret,” that revealed his skills in microcosm: expertly hooked-up drums and stinging guitar stabs supporting witty verses dispensed in a conversational cadence not unlike an East 163rd Street answer to ATCQ’s Q-Tip. Along with an infectious jazz-inflected B-side, “Freestyle (Yo, That’s That Sh…),” co-produced by Main Source auteur Large Professor, Diamond quickly established himself as a hefty force within NYC’s vanguard of MC/beat maestros, several of which he counted as collaborators. Rendered with the assuredness of someone who’d spent years honing his craft in the shadows, Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop realizes that promise and then some, and is of a piece with the era’s finest purist endeavors.

Of his approach to production, Diamond is characteristically plain-spoken, noting, “The sound is raw, don’t need a million samples” (from the 45 King co-produced gem “Check One, Two”). What

Semiconductor Researchers Solve Diamond Wafer Slicing Challenges With Lasers

  • August 16, 2023

Despite all its winning qualities for semiconductor industry use, diamond has been held back as it has been hard to fashion into usable wafers. On Tuesday, a representative from Chiba University in Japan emailed us about a breakthrough described as a novel laser-slicing technique for diamond semiconductors.

diamond wafer slicing

Apparently, the scientists have developed a laser-powered process for “effortlessly slicing diamonds.” It is thought that semiconductors created using this material will be prized for their use in highly efficient power conversion components in electric vehicles and for high-speed communication technology.

Diamonds can be very particular in how they are sliced due to the inherent crystallographic planes. These planes don’t conform to a semiconductor maker’s desires for producing grids of wafers. Thus, creating and slicing diamond wafers has been difficult, and often wasteful — and they aren’t cheap.

So, how does a laser help in the manufacturing of diamond wafers? The research team describes a process where the laser doesn’t cut the diamond into a grid, but the “concentrated laser illumination transforms diamond into amorphous carbon, whose density is lower than that of diamond.” The resulting lower-density grid line in the diamond structure provides pre-defined fracture planes for cracks to propagate along.

Once the diamond has been treated as described above, the researchers indicate it was easy to separate regular-shaped diamond wafers ready for fabrication work further down the line.

Professor Hirofumi Hidai, from the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University, said that “diamond slicing enables the production of high-quality wafers at low cost and is indispensable to fabricate diamond semiconductor devices.”

The professor also mentioned the potential of diamond semiconductors in high-power applications like electric vehicles. We have previously reported on the appealing qualities of diamond transistors — many of

“I Feel Like the Bravest Version of Myself”: Micaela Diamond on Her Carolina Herrera Tony Awards 2023 Gown

  • June 20, 2023

But the singer and actor admitted that, when she first saw the stunning strapless gown, she wasn’t sure it was the One. “To be quite honest, this Carolina dress was not my favorite on the hanger…but the minute it was halfway up my body, I was like, We’re done. I was like, I’m obsessed with this dress. This is perfect,” the actor, who worked with her stylist Sarah Slutsky on the look, explains. “I couldn’t get over how much I lit up in the dress. I just felt like the bravest version of myself in it.”

From Rebecca J Michelson

In Parade, Diamond is outfitted in conservative 1900s fashions, so, for the Tony Awards, the actor wanted to display a more “modern version of Lucille.” “[The gown] has these secret nods to Lucille via the romance and the innocence and beauty of the flowers on the dress, but also this maturity and strength with black stripes all the way down it. And I just think, That’s Lucille,” Diamond says. “It embodies the courage and weight and humanity of the story…. It really does feel like I am embodying some modern version of Lucille.”

She continues, “I love the dress, and I think it’s bold in a way that I haven’t gone yet. It’s a little scary, but also, I love it…. And I feel okay if other people don’t, which I think says a lot about how far I’ve come in terms of my own self-worth and the way I think about my work and the things I wear, it’s for me at the end of the day.”

Recalling May’s Met gala, the actor said she was “happy to be” on her costar’s arm for her first time at fashion’s biggest night. But for the Tonys, she’ll have

Rihanna Wore a Diamond Toe Ring Worth $1 Million in the Name of “Quiet Luxury”

  • May 27, 2023

Quiet luxury—also known as “stealth wealth”—is in these days, I’m told.

This trend, or perhaps more realistically this lifestyle, refers to wearing logo-less, discreet, high-quality, expensive items, which don’t scream designer but do “whisper” money, as style editor Emma Childs suggests.

Rihanna—a long-time aficionada of all things logos and jewels—doesn’t exactly fit the bill when you think of celebs embracing quiet luxury, and you better bet the Fenty founder knows it.

In a recent, now-deleted TikTok, the star showed off her feet in some very fancy shoes and an even fancier toe ring.

The shoes were heeled black sandals with crystal-embellished ankle straps by Amina Muaddi, originally retailing at $1,380, but now on sale for $966 at Matches Fashion.

As for the ring, it looked much more like a hyper-luxurious engagement ring than you’d expect a toe ring to, ever, featuring a giant pear-cut diamond.

Rihanna gave her TikTok the tongue-in-cheek caption, “quiet luxury.” I see what you did there, RiRi.

“Rihanna is always impressing with her jewellery—just a few months ago, she wore $3.2 million worth of diamonds during her performance at the Super Bowl. Thus, it’s no surprise to see her flaunting an enormous diamond on her toe during a recent night out,” commented Maxwell Stone, a diamond expert at Steven Stone.

“Custom made by XIV Karats, the ring features a 9 carat pear cut diamond, sat on a pave band.

“Having been around since the late 1400s, pear-cut diamonds have been worn by women for centuries. Because of their nontraditional cut, they’re believed to symbolize the empowerment and independence of the wearer—making the cut the perfect choice for a global superstar like Rihanna.

“Based on the sheer size of the
