The Intersection Of Auto, Art And Fashion’ Appears At Miami Concours February 16-18

  • December 2, 2023

The Miami Concours is one of those bucket list activities any car enthusiast should attend at least once – and especially in February, when it’s freezing cold in the rest of the country. It will return to the Miami Design District for its seventh edition, titled “Design Driven: The Intersection of Auto, Art and Fashion” from February 16-18, 2024.

And what is it, exactly? The Miami Concours is a three-day exhibition of the world’s most significant post-war automobiles and examples of excellence in modern design and engineering, expertly placed throughout the Miami Design District.

And what is the Miami Design District? It’s a one-of-a-kind neighborhood that combines luxury shopping, galleries, museums, design stores, restaurants and major art and design installations, all within an architecturally significant context.

Lest you get the impression this is another boring car gathering skewing strictly to old-timers, the event is also primed to be an industry disruptor, organically integrating fashion, architecture and design into an automotive experience, and ultimately attracting enthusiasts in all categories to attend.

At the 2023 show earlier this year, visitors were treated to ultra-rare, ultra-expensive rides like the limited Centenario. the Diablo, the legendary Miura and the Lamborghini Concept S. Also in attendance were Ferrari’s Enzo and F40, the Bugatti Divo, and Paganis galore.

Part of the fun of walking around an event like this is seeing cars from different eras right up against each other. Even the most untrained eye can appreciate how much times change, designs radically adjust and advancements in technology evoke head-shaking at we humans and how we get around since the last horse trotted out to pasture.

With the District as its backdrop, The Miami Concours stands out against the other annual auto events both because of its location

After Two Failed Businesses, HBCU Grad Turned Fashion Designer Sells Out In An Hour

  • October 24, 2023

Originally shirah-ray-hbcu-grad-fashion-designer-sells-out-newest-design-one-hour/”reported by Blacknews.com

Shirah Ray, a veteran fashion stylist with over 20 years of experience and the owner of David Lee’s Boutique (named after her late father) has achieved an extraordinary feat as her latest creation, the Color Block Suit, sold out within a mere hour of its launch. This remarkable success is a testament to Shirah’s unyielding determination and her commitment to empowering women through fashion.

As a proud HBCU graduate of Southern University at New Orleans, Shirah has the distinction of operating the longest-running Black-owned boutique in St. John Parish, Louisiana. However, her entrepreneurial journey has been marked by resilience in adversity. She has endured potentially paralyzing challenges such as a robbery that injured an employee severely, racial discrimination, and two store closures.

Fear of judgment and the embarrassment of two closed storefronts left Shirah’s hopes and dreams for her company drowning in doubt and uncertainty. Through her faith and the encouragement of her supportive village, she persevered, refusing to give in to discouragement and the temptation to quit.

She says, “Every obstacle has been an opportunity in disguise. By embracing tough challenges and using them as stepping stones, you will turn adversity into an advantage and build a sustainable and more successful brand. We’ve had some failures, but we’ve never failed!”

To adapt to changing market trends, her company, David Lee’s Boutique, made a strategic pivot to an exclusively online platform, which proved to be a brilliant move. Shirah committed to educating herself on the world of online sales, social media marketing, and strategic brand building. In this space, Shirah discovered her natural talent for fashion design. Embracing the digital landscape allowed her to connect with a global audience of powerful women who would resonate with the message of empowerment behind

Fashion designer Tasmim Zobaear making waves

  • June 1, 2023

With a stylistic persona and a fresh new take on things, Tasmim Zobaear is an up-and-coming designer who is taking the fashion industry by storm. From his bold use of colours and majestic silhouettes, Tasmim’s creations are not only visually appealing but also a modern take on what fashion can be.

Tasmim Zobaear was born in Chattogram in 1994 and had a keen eye for design from a very young age. He started learning about fashion in particular at the age of 15 when he studied at a design school in Darjeeling.

When asked about what inspired him to start designing, he said it was from the environment around him. He drew inspiration from things like animals, flowers, the films he watched, and the art he viewed. The ‘real-world’ style is what he always chases after.

His design aesthetic is quite unique in the sense that he focuses on objects and patterns outside of fashion. He wishes not to follow trends but bring in a unique mix of his own by introducing something that’s not within the realm of the fashion universe.

“Understanding and identifying your design style is the first step to clearly articulating your taste to someone else,” Tasmim stated.

He opened his first boutique in Dubai in 2018 and debuted in the Dubai International Fashion Week a year later. Ever since his career has skyrocketed at blinding speeds. He presented his Couture Collection at the Paris Fashion Week 2022 followed by his “Spring Summer 2023” collection.

Looking back at his works he said that his “Spring Summer 2023” debut was by far his favourite. He said the collection was simple but had a glamorous side to it, which really made him proud and showed off

The new piece sets natural white brilliant cut diamonds on a brushed 18k gold chain, in a contemporary rethink of classic motifs. ‘Initially the first piece was done as a private commission for a client who wanted a versatile diamond necklace that is soft and flexible,’ says Kamal on the unique design. ‘The challenge was to design it to be fluid but still maintain a structured feel and a strong edge.’

The new design stays faithful to her offbeat aesthetic which reinterprets traditional forms, building on past pieces such as a Twin ring composed of custom-cut diamonds shaped like trapezoids, or rings which sink pearls into puffed quilts of beige gold

‘Here, my aim was to create balance between the structure of the metal and the diamond, so that they are equal,’ Kamal adds. ‘The setting of the round brilliant cut diamond is unconventional which gives it strength, and most importantly allows us to create the interlinks to make the mechanisms that would perfectly follow the body form, so we have a free flow with minimum sway.’

The necklace can be adjusted according to the whims of the wearer, with a carefully considered functionality ensuring it is comfortable to wear. ‘It can be worn open or closed, with our custom sliding channel and magnet lock mechanism,’ says Kamal. ‘It’s handcrafted intricately in raw-white (beige) gold, with natural white brilliant

Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake dies of cancer – Life & Style

  • September 25, 2022

TOKYO: Japanese designer Issey Miyake, famed for his pleated style of clothing that never wrinkles and produced the signature black turtleneck of friend and Apple Inc founder Steve Jobs, has died, media said on Tuesday. He was 84.

Miyake, whose name became a byword for Japan’s economic and fashion prowess in the 1980s, died on Aug. 5 of liver cancer, the Kyodo news agency said. No further details were immediately available.

Known for his practicality, Miyake is said to have wanted to become either a dancer or an athlete before reading his sister’s fashion magazines inspired him to change direction – with those original interests believed to be behind the freedom of movement his clothing permits.

Miyake was born in Hiroshima and was seven years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city while he was in a classroom. He was reluctant to speak of the event in later life. In 2009, writing in the New York Times as part of a campaign to get then-U.S. President Barack Obama to visit the city, he said he did not want to be labeled as “the designer who survived” the bomb. “When I close my eyes, I still see things no one should ever experience,” he wrote, adding that within three years, his mother died of radiation exposure.

“I have tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to put them behind me, preferring to think of things that can be created, not destroyed, and that bring beauty and joy. I gravitated toward the field of clothing design, partly because it is a creative format that is modern and optimistic.”

After studying graphic design at a Tokyo art university, he learned clothing design in Paris, where he worked with famed fashion designers Guy Laroche and Hubert de Givenchy, before heading to New York. In 1970
