The jungle-print Versace dress that inspired Google Images will forever be Jennifer Lopez’s most memorable fashion moment. But the triple-threat entertainer has also given us quite a few impressive Met Gala looks over the past 20-plus years. In the time since attending her first event benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute following the release of her debut album in 1999, Lopez has gone on to experience international success across music, film and television. But while she’s co-headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, completed a Las Vegas residency and even performed during the inauguration ceremony for President Biden, she’s yet to co-chair the Met Gala—until now, that is.

Tapped by Vogue’s Anna Wintour to co-chair the 2024 Met Gala, Lopez will be joined by Zendaya, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth when she takes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps on May 6. Just a few weeks before fashion’s biggest night, J.Lo told Vogue that she hadn’t yet decided what she would be wearing for the exhibition’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme. But if Met Gala’s past are anything to go by, sparkle is practically guaranteed.

Ahead of her 15th Met Gala appearance, see all of Lopez’s designer gowns—from bedazzled Balmain to a Ralph Lauren number that made the Wild West red carpet-worthy.

Months after the release of her debut album On the 6 (and just a few months before she would wear her now iconic Versace dress to the 2000 Grammy Awards), J.Lo celebrated another career milestone: her first Met Gala. With then-boyfriend Diddy as her date, Lopez wore a peach dress with a halter neckline and cutout detailing. A cropped fur kept the singer and actress

From the moment that she released her self-titled debut album in 1983, Madonna has shown audiences that she understands the power of a multifaceted performer—and she’s been delivering ever since. Whether through multimillion-dollar world tours or on-screen in films, the Michigan native has become so influential (and at times, controversial) that she’s surely earned her moniker as the Queen of Pop.

On stage, fashion has always played a major part in the singer’s career, serving as a tool to help create looks that are as memorable as her music. Drawing inspiration from various periods in history as well as from religion, Madonna’s fashion choices have included everything from feminine lace- and lingerie-inspired looks to more masculine suiting.

And while fashion has undoubtedly been at the center of Madonna’s reinventions over the past 40-plus years, offstage, she’s also played muse, model and even creator in the design world. She championed designers like Olivier Theyskens and fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana at the start of their respective careers, and strutted the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier (her most constant fashion collaborator) on multiple occasions. No stranger to style campaigns, Madonna has starred as the face of advertisements for luxury fashion houses like Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton, and she’s ventured out into the design world herself, too. First collaborating with H&M on her M by Madonna fashion line in 2007, Madonna and her daughter Lourdes later launched the teen clothing brand Material Girl in 2010.

Still, it’s her sartorial choices for music videos and live performances that have been the most enduring. From the signature Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra that catapulted her to fashion icon status, to the current barely-there ensembles that prove she still knows how to

15 Fashion Triumphs From Cannes Over the Decades

  • May 15, 2023

If the Met Gala is the all-star showcase of red carpet entrances, the Oscars the skills championship, and the MTV Video Music Awards the X Games, then the Cannes Film Festival is effectively the playoffs: an extended period in which celebrities show up multiple times in clothes high and low, demonstrating all their moves.

And though outfits seem to be getting increasingly extreme with the proliferation of social media, a look back through the history of the festival’s runway (oops, red carpet) — which this year runs May 16-27 — reveals that it was, in fact, ever thus.

The Croisette boulevard has always been a catwalk and we, the rapt audience looking on.

1957

When she attended Cannes on the arm of her third husband, the producer Mike Todd (who was there to promote “Around the World in 80 Days”), Ms. Taylor was Hollywood royalty, and she dressed the part — from the tip of her diamond Cartier tiara to the hem of her white Balmain gown and the fingertips of her opera gloves. The princess dress would forever after be a festival staple (not least on Princesses Grace and Diana when they would take their own Cannes bows).

1966

Ms. Deneuve attended Cannes with her then-husband, the photographer David Bailey, in a long seaside-striped sequin Yves Saint Laurent T-shirt dress. She was a de facto YSL ambassador before that term had even entered the fashion playbook (back then, the usual appellation was “muse”). She would remain one for decades, loyally wearing YSL onscreen and off. When it comes to casual glamour, however, this dress set the tone, proving the concept was not an oxymoron, but a whole potential genre unto itself.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s Blue Diamond Met Gala Necklace Rivals Titanic ’s the Heart of the Ocean

  • May 11, 2023

Many of the looks on this year’s Met Gala red carpet were monochrome affairs – with most guests opting for black and white designs with a profusion of pearls in honor of the late Karl Lagerfeld. Certain A-listers, however, amped up the sparkle – and color – via fine jewelry. Step forward Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who accessorized her sweeping Valentino gown with a necklace featuring the Bulgari Luna Blue Diamond.

Conceived as an homage to Bulgari’s hometown of Rome, the necklace’s design is informed by the bay laurel wreaths worn by Roman emperors, with leaf-like diamonds set in gold, but the incredibly rare 11.6-carat Laguna is more likely to call to mind Titanic than Titus. Among the rarest colors for a diamond, the blue stone was first mounted by Bulgari as a ring for a private collector in 1970. In lieu of being cast into the Atlantic post-Met (God forbid), the gem will go under the hammer as part of Sotheby’s Luxury Week in Geneva later this month, with bids starting at a cool $25 million.

Dua Lipa, meanwhile, paired her archival bridal look – originally worn by Claudia Schiffer on the fall 1992 Chanel runway – with Tiffany & Co’s more than 100-carat Legendary Diamond, cut to resemble the Tiffany Diamond, famously worn by Audrey Hepburn, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga. Lipa, however, is the first and only star to have had the honor of wearing the Legendary stone, set in Tiffany & Co.’s Lucida Star necklace, which includes 100 additional carats of diamonds. Hard to imagine a better place for a diamond to make its debut than the Met Gala.

Fashion Exhibition In London Palace Shows The Royal Courts Were No Different To The Met Gala

  • April 10, 2023

Stars of old: they’re just like us! Or just like today’s celebrities, in any case.

Outfits and jewels worn by Audrey Hepburn, Lizzo, Lady Gaga and Rihanna take center-stage alongside Royal ceremonial dress and other historic items, in a new fashion exhibition which opened this week in London. The largest exhibition ever staged at Kensington Palace, home to the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, Crown to Couture brings together over 200 items spanning five centuries.

It opens with a dress worn to the 1954 Oscars by Audrey Hepburn, alongside the Silver Tissue gown worn to court by a British aristocrat in the 1660s, and goes on to explore the parallels between historical fashion and modern red carpet dressing. The exhibition includes a dazzling collection of jewelry both historic and contemporary, curated by writer, curator and Responsible Jewelry Council Executive Director Melanie Grant.

“The customs of the Georgian court might seem distant and anachronistic, but we hope that Crown to Couture will provide a new and familiar lens through which to understand the palace’s spaces and the court’s traditions,” says Claudia Scott Williams, curator at Historic Royal Palaces. “By placing historic court dress in conversation with contemporary red carpet fashion and modern celebrity we begin to see that they are perhaps not so alien after all.”

The State Apartments, once the glittering hub of the Georgian Court and 18th century London’s equivalent of the red carpet, have been transformed for the event

Hailey Bieber’s Minimalistic Fashion Evolution Through the Years: Photos

  • March 12, 2023

Cutouts! Catsuits! Cargo! Hailey Bieber — née Baldwin — is notoriously Hollywood’s It-Girl. The influencer has long been hailed as a fashion icon, even before marrying Justin Bieber in 2018. Together, the couple has slayed at the Met Gala, Grammys and Billboard Music Awards, serving up major #couplegoals. Hailey, however, is still a moment on her own. The model slays every red carpet she steps foot on, gracing Us with her elegant but minimalistic style. She favors slip dresses and figure-hugging frocks that all come in muted shades and earthy tones. Her go-to brands include Saint Laurent, Elie Saab, Cushnie et Ochs and Zuhair Murad. The dirty-blonde beauty’s off-duty wardrobe is also pretty sweet — thanks to distressed denim, beanies, loafers and combat. While on a date with the “Peaches” singer in New York, the trendsetter wore a casual mini dress by Wardrobe NYC. The adorable ensemble was finished with buttons lining the center, and she paired it with a pair of knee high boots by Gia Borghini x RHW and Balenciaga sunglasses. One of the Rhode Beauty founder’s most standout looks came at the 2022 Met Gala. The theme that year was In America: An Anthology of Fashion, and she delivered the drama. Bieber commanded attention in an ivory Saint Laurent masterpiece, featuring a halter neckline, loose fit, and thigh-high slit. She paired the pearly number with a feathered cape and sheer black tights. For glam that night, the Arizona native rocked a dewy face, feathered brows, rosy cheeks, light mascara and pink lips. Her locks were parted down the middle and styled in her signature slicked back bun. She teamed the delicate getup with diamond earrings. Another killer look she sported was at the 2nd Annual Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala in October 2022. The beauty guru

Kim Kardashian has been proving that swimwear can absolutely be worn for a workout.

The SKIMS mogul has been making 2022 headlines for dropping weight ever since she shocked fans with a slimmed-down Met Gala display this year, and now she’s offering an insight into what’s been contributing to the weight loss.

Photos shared to Kim’s Instagram recently were recycled and used to promote Poosh last weekend. The lifestyle brand run by sister Kourtney Kardashian regularly enlists the help of the family, plus stars including Kaia Gerber and Emily Ratajkowski.

The ex to Kanye West made sure fans saw her rock-hard abs and slimmed-down waistline, plus the muscles she’s been building up. Kim has lost a total of 21 pounds this year. She also showed off her icy-blonde locks while posing amid gym machines.
